When did you last polish the scuffed brown shoes in your business?
Okay, so you got some marketing material from a company which interests you and give them a call to further proceedings.  The conversation goes well but there are still a few things you need to iron out face to face, so you book a meeting.

Meeting day comes and you have armed yourself with insightful questions and background research ready to further your already strengthening commitment to this project.  The call comes in to the office that your 10 o’clock has just arrived and you make your way down stairs to the reception area.

When positive thinking becomes the shooting squads blind fold.

At some point (probably many) in every entrepreneur’s life they will face tough situations and for most the way to deal with that is to think positive thoughts and vibes.  Now positive thinking has its place, but, it can be just as dangerous when it’s used like an ostrich, to bury your head in the sand and ignore the possible outcomes.

Business success in the real world is realised not because of optimism or determination, but by the wise pursuit of opportunity and sensible risk management.

Nobody teaches you how to recognise opportunity or manage risk though, you have to learn it, and that’s the real currency of business.

Excessive optimism masks the potential doom lying beyond a bad decision because instead of facing our fears and working through them we find it easier to avoid or ignore them.

The only sensible way of dealing with tough situations is to build a plan or mind map so that you can see what it is you really fear and explore potential solutions and outcomes.

Soon, you will realise that your fear is over glorified, that there are multiple solutions and resources that you can tap into and there is a path to navigate your way out of the potential outcomes.

A similar approach can be used when developing a business plan to avoid the over optimistic projections and get down to the real planning of how these ideas will come about, not just from positive thought or hope.

Your business, product or service just has to be REMARKABLE!

One of my favourite marketers Seth Godin speaks about the walls customers and prospects have built up against most marketing and sales techniques making many of the sales and marketing practises being used redundant and now just a waste of time and money.  Could you be saving youself a ton of money and time?

Its time to reinvent and evolve what we have been doing and we may find outselves borrowing from other markets such as the fashion business.

Setting Goals or Creating Outcomes, the choice is yours but the results are a world apart

Ever hear people say that to get anywhere in life you need to have goals, the things that you need or want in your life or business.

Ever tried setting them? Wondered why they never materialise or are achieved not very often…well, that’s because many of the goal setting programmes people teach only tell half the story.

Cold Calling Crisis

Mention the words cold and call to business people and the majority cringe at the thought because we’ve all experience those boiler room phone calls where your gabled at and coaxed at a hundred miles an hour while they try and close a deal over the phone for some product you just don’t need, but somehow feel obliged to purchase.

But cold calling doesn’t have to be like that.  I prefer to use the tern prospecting which is more about using the phone as a way of researching data and find information about your potential clients.
